R3 Center at Rowan-Cabarrus Offers Workshops for NC Community Colleges and Workforce Development Providers
When a local economy loses its primary employment base, such as textiles, furniture, other manufacturing and finance, displaced workers (unemployed and under-employed) can’t rely on past job experience and skills. Similar jobs likely are gone forever. Today’s displaced workers have specific needs and require specialized counseling to develop an action plan.
Seeking to serve displaced workers as a distinct client base, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) created the R3 Center in 2007. The three Rs stand for: a refocus on individual skills and interests, retraining and further education, and partnering with other workforce development agencies to secure career-oriented re-employment.
The R3 Center helps workers assess their skills, aptitudes, training and academic credentials, and explore future career interests to develop an action plan. All R3 Center services are provided free-of-charge and can be integrated into the operations of community colleges and employment agencies.
Through a grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, RCCC and its partners are offering a workshop series for community colleges, employment agencies, workforce development boards, and public school staff members. Join us as RCCC and its partners share their experiences and knowledge gained through serving thousands of displaced workers.
Workshop Schedule:
The workshops at RCCC in Kannapolis will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursdays and run through 3 p.m. on Fridays. All workshop fees are covered by the grant, with participants responsible for their own travel and lodging. Friday breakfast and lunch will be provided.
